Art is subjective and can take on all forms and not all of them you need to be especially talented. One way you can indulge your love of art is by getting into candle making. There is something exhilarating about creating something from scratch. From choosing the right wax, blending fragrances, and creating something unique that you can enjoy and share with your friends and family.
Candle making process can be a little challenging for beginners as it requires a lot of patience, trial and error until you come up with a finished product that you are happy with the result. Let us start with using the right wick for your candle. It is one of the most important part of candle making. The right size of wick can impact the type of fragrance oil, fragrance load and the shape of the candle. Not choosing the right wick can experience problem like tunnelling, drowning wick, and could burn the candle quickly.
Next step and my favorite part in candle making is choosing the fragrances and essential oils if you opt for scented candles. I personally like scented candles; it can transform a room into different mood or ambiance and add that extra luxurious feel. There are so many fragrance types to choose from but type of fragrance to use can be narrowed down to fruity, floral, citrusy, musky etc. depending on the type of candle you want to create. There is no limit to your imagination. Personally, I find mixing and blending fragrances overly exciting. You always come up with an incredibly unique fragrance blend that you could not find in a store because it something you have created.
At FaerieLuxe, we pride ourselves of sourcing our fragrance oils directly from Canadian Distributors. We only use the highest quality of fragrance oil and essential oil suitable for candle and soap use. Our Fragrance Oils used are paraben-free and phthalate-free which makes them safer for you and the environment.
Now, let us talk about choosing the right jar for your candle. There are so many options to choose from when it comes to choosing the jar or vessel for your candle. It comes in different colors, sizes and materials. I think, this is more of a personal choice depending on your preference and taste. My recommendation is to choose a jar that would not crack or break and are designed specifically for candle usage. Choose a jar that are heat-resistant and able to withstand high temperature from melted wax.
Finally, choosing the right wax. There are several types of wax available in the market that you can choose from. Most commonly use is paraffin wax, also known as straight wax. Other options are bees wax, soy wax, palm wax and gel wax. My preference is using soy wax because it is environmentally friendly and renewable resources. They can last up to 50% longer than paraffin candles. They produce less soot than paraffin candles.
Now that you have learned some basics, it may inspire you to start making your own candle and have fun with it. You can be as creative as you want to be by adding dried flowers, precious stone, charms, etc. Just treat it like a blank canvas and create something amazing!
